About Ryder

Ryder is a 5-year-old merle Great Dane with soulful eyes and a heart that's worked hard to trust again. Before coming into rescue, he spent most of his life outdoors with his brother, without much shelter, love, or steady care. It wasn't an easy start for either of them. But from the very first day his foster met him, Ryder showed up exactly as he is now: sweet, playful, and completely smitten with people.

Since coming into care, Ryder has thrown himself into learning with everything he's got. He's crate trained, leash trained, and trained on a Sprenger collar. He went through professional training and graduated with flying colors, including 100% recall, which is no small thing for a Dane. Watching him work is honestly a joy. He's sharp, focused, and clearly loves having a job to do and a person to do it for.

Ryder is affectionate with the adults in his life and does well with children over 12. He's the kind of dog who leans into a hand on his head and settles right into the rhythm of a calm, steady home.

A Little Bit More

Given everything Ryder has been through, he does best with people who understand large breeds and are ready to keep up the consistency he's built his confidence on. He's not looking for a family who will start from scratch, he's looking for one who will pick up where his hard work left off.

He does best with:

• A family with large breed experience, ready to follow through on his training
• A calm, structured, consistent home
• No small animals, cats, or livestock (he does have some prey drive)
• No male dogs in the home (a calm, submissive female may be considered, case by case)
