GDRNE Northern Chapter Adoption

Thank you for considering adopting with us.

Find some key items to consider before you apply to adopt. If you have any questions at any time please use the "Contact Us" at the bottom of any page to reach a volunteer. We thank you for thinking about opening your home to one of our big lugs.

Adoptable Dogs

“A Great Dane’s heart is a vast expanse of love, loyalty, and kindness – much like their size, it knows no bounds.”

What To Consider

Electric Fence

While your dog may stay within the bounds set by the electricity, if they have a strong enough prey drive they will likely run past any border trained or untrained. Furthermore, it does not prevent any other animal (pet or wild) from coming onto your property and hurting your Dane.

No Fence

Your dog will have nothing to keep it contained. Without a physical fence, precautions will have to be taken with the dog for its own safety.  Dogs without a yard will likely require more walks or doggie daycare opportunities

No Yard

No yard is not a problem. These dogs can be great apartment dogs when given the proper exercise and opportunities to roam and stretch their larger limbs safely

Children

The right dog will need to be adopted into a family with children.  We work to ensure that there is training of all the family members as well as the dog so that the whole family can survive and thrive for the dog's lifetime.

Strength of the Breed

These dogs are very large, and with their large size does come strength. With the proper training they can be handle by even the smallest of a humans, always with the watchful eye of an adult near by because any animal can be surprised or startled.

Cost of Living

On average you will be spending anywhere from $100-$300 per month on your Great Dane. This does not include the cost of veterinarian visits, toys, beds, treats and any other dog extras you want to provide your puppers.

Still Here and Want to Adopt

Apply

We are an all-volunteer organization with a high volume of correspondence, we cannot respond to adoption inquires until the application and donation received.  Please allow up to 2 weeks to receive a reply from one of our volunteers.

Approval

After review and verification of your application, the information will be entered into our database.  We will call you for a conversation, perform reference checks, inquire with your veterinarian and perform a home visit. We will then seek to find a rescue Dane who will match your environment, once found, we will begin the process of completing the adoption process.

Our Dane's are placed based on temperament, exercise requirements and any medical needs rather than color, size or ear type.

Adoption

Once a rescue Dane has found its match, and the applicant is qualified, we will work to coordinate placing the Dane in its forever home.  This could take anywhere between a few days or a few weeks depending on the circumstances of the dog.  To offset veterinary costs, spay/neuter procedure fees, and the transportation costs that we absorb, we ask for a donation between $100 and $400.00 dollars.

*We contractually reserve the right to take possession of the dog if a breach of the adoption agreement is identified. All donations are tax deductible, receipt always given when asked for.

Our Current Adoptable Dogs

🐾 Meet Dreyfus & Rufus – The Bonded Brothers

📍 Age: 2 years | Gender: Male (Both) 🐕 Bonded Pair – Must Be Adopted Together | 🚨 Not Neutered

Meet Dreyfus & Rufus – two inseparable brothers who are truly two halves of one big, loving heart. These bonded Great Danes have spent their whole lives side-by-side, and they’re ready to find a forever home together after their owner, heartbreakingly, had to let them go due to family health issues.

Whether they’re curled up for a nap, greeting guests with wagging tails, or just keeping you company around the house, Dreyfus and Rufus are always in sync—bringing double the love, loyalty, and joy.

💖 Why You’ll Love Dreyfus & Rufus:
✅ Deeply bonded—seriously, they get anxious if separated!
✅ Affectionate, friendly, and gentle giants
✅ Well-behaved and used to living in a home
✅ Make a wonderful duo for a family looking for easygoing, loving companions

🚨 What Dreyfus & Rufus Need in a Home:
🏡 A home ready to welcome and care for two big dogs
🛋️ A calm, stable environment where they can stick to their routine
🐾 Room to stretch out (preferably a fenced yard or large space to roam)
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 A family that understands the needs of bonded pairs and giant breeds

These boys are total sweethearts who are happiest when they’re together—whether lounging side by side or trotting around the yard like mirror images. They bring a comforting sense of companionship not just to each other, but to everyone around them.

If your heart and home are big enough for two, Dreyfus & Rufus are ready to return that love tenfold.

🐾 Meet Apollo – The Wise Old Soul

📍 Age: 6 years | 🐶 Gender: Male | 🎨 Color: Black | 🚨 Not Neutered | In CT

Apollo is a seasoned gentleman with the soul of a wise old friend. At 6 years old, Apollo knows exactly what he loves: peace, good food, comfy napping spots, and a home where routines are respected. He’s independent, well-mannered, and calm—but don’t let his chill vibe fool you. He’s also full of quiet affection and enjoys the presence of those he trusts.

Apollo has lived with adults and teenagers and has been around other animals. He’s now living with a few dog friends and genuinely enjoys having canine company. He’d love to have a dog companion in his forever home to share in the simple joys of everyday life.

💖 Why You’ll Love Apollo:
✅ A relaxed, low-maintenance guy who just wants comfort and calm
✅ House-trained and respectful of your space
✅ Affectionate—on his terms, and when he’s ready
✅ Quiet companion with no interest in chaos or drama
✅ Enjoys the company of other dogs

🚨 What Apollo Needs in a Home:
🏡 A laid-back, predictable environment
🛋️ A home without too many stairs—he’s a “ground floor only” kind of guy
💧 A tolerant bather (he’s not a fan, but he’ll deal)
🐾 A family that understands his boundaries—especially around food
🐶 A calm dog friend would be a great match for him

Apollo is the type of dog who doesn’t ask for much—but he gives back so much in return. He’s a soft-eyed, easygoing companion who just wants a place where he can nap in peace, get some pets (after dinner, please), and share his quiet presence with someone who appreciates the gentle things in life.

If your ideal day involves slow mornings, cozy evenings, and a dog who’s more “Netflix and nap” than “fetch and frolic,” Apollo might just be your perfect match.

🐾 Meet Bear – A Tender Soul Searching for a Safe Place

📍 Age: 1.5 Years | 🐶 Gender: Male | 🎨 Color: Fawn| Weight: 90 lbs | ✅ Neutered | IN NH

Meet Bear – a gentle, sensitive soul with a heart as big as his paws. This 1.5-year-old, smaller sized, Great Dane has known love, but due to changes in his previous family’s life, he’s looking for a fresh start with someone who truly understands that building trust takes time.

Bear is goofy, cuddly, and full of quirks that will make you smile—like hiding his kibble under a blanket or pausing mid-meal for a random stroll. But he’s also a fearful dog who finds the world overwhelming, especially when it’s loud, fast, or full of strangers. He’s not a social butterfly—he’s more of a homebody who blossoms in the right environment.

💖 Why You’ll Love Bear:
✅ Deeply loyal once he bonds with you
✅ Crate-trained and finds comfort in his safe space
✅ Dog- and cat-friendly
✅ Loves playing in a quiet yard and going for peaceful walks
✅ Endearingly quirky and full of personality

🚨 What Bear Needs in a Home:
🏡 A quiet, adult-only home (or one with calm, dog-savvy older kids)
🐾 Fenced yard—a must-have for his security and decompression
🛋️ A low-traffic household with few visitors
📅 Someone home often—he doesn’t do well alone outside of his crate
🐕 Prior experience with fearful/anxious dogs or giant breeds
📚 A willingness to continue positive training with a professional

🧠 Bear’s Quirks & Considerations:
⚠️ Fearful of strangers—barks, shakes, and growls when overwhelmed
🚫 Must be crated when alone to prevent panic and destruction
💧 May have accidents when stressed or nervous
🍗 Allergic to chicken
🐾 Muzzled at the vet for safety
🍖 Can be touch-sensitive around food and high-value treats
🚗 Not a fan of car rides (he’ll get in but has trouble settling)

Bear is not a dog for busy households, dog parks, or loud adventures—but for the right person, he’s a deeply rewarding companion. With consistency, compassion, and a safe place to land, Bear will thrive. He’s not looking for perfect—just for someone who sees his potential and won’t give up on him.

Bear will be up to date on vaccines before adoption. Meet-and-greet required for approved adopters.

If you’re ready to be Bear’s safe place and guide, he’s ready to give you all the love (and laughs) in his big, brave heart. 🖤

🐾 Double the Danes, Double the Love 🐾

📍 Age: 4 Years | 🐶 Gender: Female x2 | 🎨 Color: Fawn & Black | ✅ Spayed | BONDED PAIR | IN RI

Meet Estela & Athena – shy sisters with giant hearts and a bond that’s unbreakable. These beautiful 4-year-old Great Dane girls are searching for a forever home together, where they can feel safe, loved, and continue to grow into the confident companions they’re meant to be.

Though naturally timid, Estela and Athena blossom into loyal, affectionate cuddlebugs once they feel secure. With time, patience, and love, these sweet girls will reward you with endless snuggles, gentle play, and the kind of devotion only bonded Danes can give.

💖 Why You’ll Love Estela & Athena:
✅ Lifelong bonded pair—always side-by-side
✅ Medium energy—enjoy playtime in the yard and long naps afterward
✅ Huge cuddlers once they warm up
✅ Great with respectful kids and animal-savvy—have lived with cats, dogs, chickens, rabbits, reptiles, ducks, and even fish!
✅ Potty trained and love car rides
✅ Travel well and enjoy exploring (when it’s quiet and calm)

🚨 What Estela & Athena Need in a Home:
🏡 A calm, patient household to help them build confidence
🐾 A secure, fenced yard for decompression and play
🛋️ A family who understands fear-based behaviors and can go slow
🐕 Someone with experience (or willingness to learn) about sensitive or fearful dogs
🌦️ Patience for classic Dane quirks—like not wanting to go out in the rain!

🩺 Medical Info:
✨ Both are spayed
✨ Will be brought up to date on vaccines and preventatives before adoption
✨ Have shown fear-based behavior at the vet (were muzzled for safety), but have never been aggressive

Estela and Athena are looking for more than just a house—they need a safe, understanding home where they can continue to grow together. With gentle guidance and a little patience, these sisters will bring double the joy, double the snuggles, and a lifetime of unconditional love.

📝 Bonded Pair – Will Only Be Adopted Together
👋 Meet-and-greet required for approved adopters

🐾 Meet Luna – Loyal, Loving, and Ready for Her Next Shot

📍 Age: 5 Years | 🐶 Gender: Female | 🎨 Color: Mantle | ✅ Spayed | In NH

Transport may be available for the right home.

Luna is a 5-year-old spayed female Great Dane who has been deeply loved since she was a puppy. She’s playful, affectionate, and happiest when curled up next to her people. She knows her basic commands, walks beautifully on leash, and is crate trained.

💔 Why She Needs a New Home
Luna has lived with other dogs—two males—for most of her life. But after a second female dog was added to the home, tension began to rise over food, attention, and space. Over time, even one of the male dogs became part of the conflict. Her family managed the situation as best they could, but now with a 9-month-old baby at home and signs of Luna’s stress (including growling at the baby), they’ve made the heartbreaking decision to rehome her.

🏡 What Luna Needs:
✔️ A home with no small children (she does well with older kids, ages 10+)
✔️ Ideally an only-dog home, though she may do well with a calm male dog
✔️ Someone experienced with large breeds who can give her structure, love, and safety

Luna is a gentle, devoted companion who just needs the right environment to shine.

🙏 Keeping Her Safe
Her family is committed to keeping her in their home until the right match is found—no shelter, no chaos. Just time, patience, and love.

🌠 After last night’s display in the skies over New England, we’re reminded to believe in small miracles.
Please help us find one for Luna.
