Freya came to us cautious and a little unsure of the world. That made sense. She had been misunderstood before, her size and her playful spirit mistaken for something they weren't. She just needed someone to slow down and see her for who she really was.
And when people did, she showed them everything.
She was sweet and sensitive and loyal in the way only a dog who has had to work for trust can be. She learned ASL cues with focus and patience that made everyone around her smile. She had zoomies that seemed to surprise even her. She had a soft nuzzle she reserved for the people she decided were safe. The world could feel big and loud for Freya, so she navigated it carefully, on her own terms, and she was so brave for it every single day.
She never made it to her forever home. Freya showed signs of bloat and we rushed her to emergency care as fast as we could. But GDV moves without mercy, and her heart stopped before surgery could begin. We are devastated.
Freya deserved so much more time. She deserved the calm home we were working so hard to find her, the family who would have learned her cues and left a nightlight on and celebrated every small brave thing she did. She deserved zoomies in a yard that was hers.
We are so glad she knew she was loved. We are so glad she got to feel safe, even for a little while.
Run free, sweet girl. The world just got a little less bright. 💙
