Thank you for considering adopting with us.
Find some key items to consider before you apply to adopt. If you have any questions at any time please use the "Contact Us" at the bottom of any page to reach a volunteer. We thank you for thinking about opening your home to one of our big lugs.
While your dog may stay within the bounds set by the electricity, if they have a strong enough prey drive they will likely run past any border trained or untrained. Furthermore, it does not prevent any other animal (pet or wild) from coming onto your property and hurting your Dane.
Your dog will have nothing to keep it contained. Without a physical fence, precautions will have to be taken with the dog for its own safety. Dogs without a yard will likely require more walks or doggie daycare opportunities
No yard is not a problem. These dogs can be great apartment dogs when given the proper exercise and opportunities to roam and stretch their larger limbs safely
The right dog will need to be adopted into a family with children. We work to ensure that there is training of all the family members as well as the dog so that the whole family can survive and thrive for the dog's lifetime.
These dogs are very large, and with their large size does come strength. With the proper training they can be handle by even the smallest of a humans, always with the watchful eye of an adult near by because any animal can be surprised or startled.
On average you will be spending anywhere from $100-$300 per month on your Great Dane. This does not include the cost of veterinarian visits, toys, beds, treats and any other dog extras you want to provide your puppers.
We are an all-volunteer organization with a high volume of correspondence, we cannot respond to adoption inquires until the application and donation received. Please allow up to 2 weeks to receive a reply from one of our volunteers.
After review and verification of your application, the information will be entered into our database. We will call you for a conversation, perform reference checks, inquire with your veterinarian and perform a home visit. We will then seek to find a rescue Dane who will match your environment, once found, we will begin the process of completing the adoption process.
Our Dane's are placed based on temperament, exercise requirements and any medical needs rather than color, size or ear type.
Once a rescue Dane has found its match, and the applicant is qualified, we will work to coordinate placing the Dane in its forever home. This could take anywhere between a few days or a few weeks depending on the circumstances of the dog. To offset veterinary costs, spay/neuter procedure fees, and the transportation costs that we absorb, we ask for a donation between $100 and $400.00 dollars.
*We contractually reserve the right to take possession of the dog if a breach of the adoption agreement is identified. All donations are tax deductible, receipt always given when asked for.
